My favorite Easter tradition as a child was wrapping eggs in onion peels with thread then boiling them in vinegar water. The best part is unwrapping them to see what colors and patters have been stained onto the eggs. The kids thought this was all kinds of fun this year. Of course we used the standard color tablets as well. Brody loved listening to them fizzle. Rachael loved dipping her eggs into multiple colors and ended up having more dye on her hands than the eggs. Since Nora drinks from any open container in sight, we let her sleep. Brian was a sweetheart and worked on the sprinklers while we had our fun.
We had a wonderful time Sunday afternoon with a group of Brian's work friends who are all transplants from Utah. Jared and Amanda hosted a great Easter egg hunt and BBQ. The kids were all so cute together.
Rachael bonded with their dogs and really came out of her own little world. Maybe I'll have to rethink my NO PET policy in the future. Distant future.
All this fun followed a very productive week of home, and hut, improvement. Among other projects, Brian removed a tree stump in our front yard and replaced it with a new palm. I put some stepping stones up to the "clubhouse", and next to it, Brody and I planted a 12x24 garden. That's inches, not feet. Sorry to disappoint. I figure radishes, petunias and sunflowers are a good start and pretty fool proof.
I've never seen the shell stay attached after a sunflower pops out of the ground. I thought it was pretty cool.
Brian helped Rachael with a grape tomatoe plant. Rachael loves picking the beautiful little yellow flowers on it. Any bets on how much fruit it will produce?
Rachael also helped by harvesting pine cones...
...with help from Brody.
Of course we had to take advantage of the great weather.
eggs
onions
vinegar
friends
hard work
seeds
sunshine
family
and a pinch of tender moments...
...that's what memories are made of.

Wish I could have been there, looks like fun! I think this is the first year I haven't dyed eggs.
Your photography is outstanding!!!
Oh how I miss this family. Every time I drive past your house I miss you. Did I mention I miss you? Hope you are well! Love you!
Kelli, I love all your photos. Dying eggs in an unusual way is something I enjoy. You can try putting a feathery leaf or other images against the egg before you wrap with with the onion skins. I've also heard of wrapping with red cabbage leaves, as well. Experimentation is the name of the game. Thanks for sharing your Easter with me. Love, Aunt Sue
I can't believe Rachael's ability to do such a difficult puzzle.
You are a GREAT photographer...wow! I luv the pictures! Looks like a fun Easter. Way to keep the tradition with the onion eggs. My dad always made those. The picture with the Jeep is hilarious!! Your kids are so cute! I love the dresses!
